Thank you Bowen!”Bowen Therapy was practiced in Geelong, Victoria [Australia] by Tom Bowen and was recognized by the Federal Government in Australia in 1970 as alternative therapy. [Sturgess R.2006].  Bowen therapy is a dynamic, remedial body technique and may be exquisite or gentle and very relaxing.  It empowers the body’s own healing resources, achieving balance and harmony, resulting in fast and lasting relief from pain and discomfort.  Bowen is an all embracing vibration energy therapy, safe to use on anyone, newborn to the elderly, with any condition from sport injuries to chronic or organic complaints.

A treatment comprises sequences of moves, each at a specific site on the body.  It is not powerful manipulation.  Rather, it is cross-fiber maneuvering of a muscle, tendon or ligament.  However, fascia also plays an important role in this technique.  The precise location of the Bowen moves correlate markedly with the meridian energy system, acupressure-points and Myofascial point therapy.  Observation also suggests the lymphatic system is greatly affected by the technique.

Bowen is generally a stand alone therapy or performed as last set of treatments. Clients are advised not to receive other massage treatments for at least seven days after a Bowen session as the body repairs itself.

Lymphatic Drainage
The Lymphatic system is our front line of defense in fighting bodily infections, detoxifying the body and transporting metabolic wastes, excess water, bacteria and toxins out of the body.

The Lymph glands (at neck, armpits, groin, etc) are connected by a broad network of vessels, which transplant the fluid. Muscular movement is required to move it, as there is no ‘Heart’ to pump it.  Lymphatic Drainage, a gentle whole body treatment relaxes the nervous system and aids the body’s immune system. It is highly recommended for those prone to and recovering from sore throats, colds, infections, ongoing tiredness, excess fluids, low immunity, swollen node and also for the physically inactive.  Bowen style Lymphatic Drainage has also been known to help to remove the visible signs of cellulite, in conjunction with “homework” by the client.

What do I wear?

Loose comfortable clothing. In order to be effective in the technique, therapists must be able to feel the muscles and be able to work through the clothing. Therefore heavy thick clothing such as jeans, khakis, etc. is not advised, nor are nylons. Appropriate clothing such as gym shorts, t-shirts, leggings, etc. are preferable.
